The Sound of Philadelphia era has created artists you know and love such as The Spinners, The O’Jays, Al Green, The Stylistics, Kool and the Gang, Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, Barry White, Archie Bell and the Drells, The Whispers, The Gap Band, McFadden and Whitehead, Instant Funk to Boys To Men. Even artists such as Earth, Wind & Fire were influenced by this sound.
This musical genre was built from the genius of Kenny Gamble, Leon Huff, and Thom Bell nicknamed The Mighty Three and owners of Philadelphia International Records. They were referred to as the masterminds of the Black-owned label known for its unique sound and vision based on messages of love, peace, empowerment, pride, and strength.
